48: Gabriela Quintero (Rodrigo y Gabriela)

Or stream below:

Guitarist Gabriela Quintero is an innovator. Her technique is completely unique, combining elements of metal, flamenco, tango and hand drumming. Along with her longtime collaborator Rodrigo Sanchez (the two have a group called Rodrigo y Gabriela) she has played in some of the biggest and most important venues in the world. They count Metallica and Hans Zimmer among her fans, and they continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible for just two people to do musically.

We spent a morning sitting in a yoga studio by the water talking about what led her to leave Mexico City for the coast and how it informed her life and her music.
