Episode 28: Madeleine Peyroux
Madeleine Peyroux’s life story reads like a novel. She moved to Paris as a teenager, ran away and started singing on the streets. She was soon discovered by a record producer who eventually signed her to a contract and produced an album. But the whole process was overwhelming and she disappeared again into the shadows. When she emerged several years later, she had recorded a brilliant record called Careless Love. The rest is either history, or a mystery. Today she’s regarded as one of the finest jazz and blues singers of her generation.
This episode was recorded at a café in Paris on a crisp spring day. Madeleine speaks frankly and candidly about her teenage years in Paris, her career, her creative process, and the value of perpetual dissatisfaction.
It’s a truly captured moment. A one of a kind event.
